New York Marathon winner ran across Mexico [+ VIDEO]

Former world-class runner Germán Silva Martínez crossed the whole of Mexico with his running shoes in four months.

The runner from Mexico needed 100 days to run through his home country. In total, Germán Silva ran 5,060 kilometers, so an average of more than 50 kilometers per day.

Curious marathon win in New York

In his active career as a professional runner, he became vice world champion in the half marathon (1994) and twice the winner of the New York City Marathon (1994, 1995). Above all, his triumph in 1994 was fondly remembered. At that time, Silva was misguided with a kilometer to go while she was clearly in the lead. When he was back on track, he was only behind his training colleague Benjamin Paredes in 2nd place. But he was able to intercept this in the last few meters and run in to victory with a two-second lead. His best marathon time was 2:08:56 at the 1998 Boston Marathon.
