If, according to New York police chief Edward Caban, “there is no specific or credible threat to the New York marathon”, the American authorities, given the international context, preferred to raise the security alert level in view of the event which should bring together around 50,000 participants on Sunday between Staten Island and Central Park.
The field of the women’s race is the richest, with a Kenyan final four. It includes former world record holder Brigid Kosgei, Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir, Boston Marathon winner (and double 5,000m world champion in 2017 and 2019) Hellen Obiri and title holder Sharon Lokedi .
At the start of the men’s race, we find the winner of the 2021 edition, the Kenyan Albert Korir, the Dutch vice-Olympic champion Abdi Nageeye, the Ethiopian Shura Kitata (second last year) and the 2022 world champion, his compatriot Tamirat Tola.
