New York Man Wins $3 Million in Lottery but Receives Less Than Half Due to Taxes

Andrea Garvey, from Mount Vernon, New York, became the lucky winner of $3 million dollars in the New York Lottery’s ‘Triple Jackpot 777’ scratch-off game. However, his final prize was much less than the original amount.

After winning, Garvey elected to receive his prize in a single payment of $1.3 million dollars, this because he had to pay the required taxes.

The amount you received at the end represents less than half of the total advertised prize, but this is a common practice in lottery games when the winner opts for a one-time payment rather than being paid the full prize over 30 years.

Garvey’s winning ticket was purchased at the Memorial Stationery store, located at 414 E Sandford Blvd. in Mount Vernon.

For those who still dream of winning, two major prizes left available on ‘Triple Jackpot 777’ game tickets.

In fiscal year 2022-2023, scratch-off games in New York had huge sales, reaching $4.406 million. Additionally, schools in Westchester County received $155 million from the Lottery to assist with education.
