New York man repeatedly hits Queens hotel worker in random attack

New York Police are on the hunt for a knife-wielding suspect who was filmed repeatedly cutting a worker at a Queens hotel early Sunday morning.

According to the NYPD, the violent assault took place at 6:15 a.m. at the La Quinta Inn at 37-18 Queens Boulevard in the Long Island City neighborhood.

An unidentified man was hanging out in the hotel lobby when a 33-year-old employee asked him to leave.

The suspect then approached the worker and asked for a bottle of water, investigators said.

Lobby security video shows the hotel worker coming out from behind the front desk and handing a bottle of water to the man.

The two men exchange a few words before the suspect pulls out a knife and pounces on the employee.

The assailant chases the victim into a corner and a violent struggle ensues, in which the man with the knife towers over the victim, pins him, and cuts off his hands and left ear.

The injured hotel employee eventually manages to escape the assailant and take refuge in the closed reception area, which has a door to the side.

The victim leans on the door to prevent the suspect from entering, and after a few moments the assailant leaves.

Video shows the unidentified suspect, dressed in a black sweatshirt, light-colored sweatpants and black sneakers, slowly exiting the hotel.

The victim was transported in stable condition to New York Health + Hospitals / Elmhurst hospitals for treatment for his injuries.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
