New York man faces criminal charges after prompting lockdown at Ambridge Area High School

A New York man is facing criminal charges after prompting a lockdown at Ambridge Area High School Friday.

Anthony Mosca, 18, of Bronxville, New York, allegedly used a fake name to sign in at the school and receive a pass.

School staff informed police around noon Friday that Mosca entered the school, had lunch with his 15-year-old sister and tried to take her out of school, according to court documents.

The school was subsequently placed on lockdown.

Surveillance footage from the school shows Mosca with a group of students, police said.

He was arrested and is facing charges of criminal trespassing and corruption of children.

TribLive news partner WTAE reported that several parents expressed concerns about safety measures at the school after Friday’s incident. There also were worries about a door that police found was propped open during their investigation.

According to WTAE, superintendent Joseph Pasquerilla told families in an email that no weapons or illegal materials were found and no threat was made.

“The person stated that he was here to see his sibling and the lockdown was lifted,” Pasquerilla said in the message. “The administration and Ambridge Borough Police are continuing to investigate the situation and the police will take appropriate legal action.”

Classes continued on a normal schedule, he said, and all students and staff were safe.

“Safety and security of our students and staff is and will remain our priority in the Ambridge Area School District,” Pasquerilla said.

Court documents indicate Mosca was taken to Beaver County Prison but released on $15,000 bond. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Alex Korol is scheduled for Nov. 28.
