New York Legislature Passes Bill to Help Eligible Households Receive Utility Bill Assistance

The state legislature passed a bill that would benefit many New Yorkers who don’t get help paying for services like electricity and gas.

If signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul, the Office of Temporary Disability Assistance would be required to work with utilities that provide electric and natural gas services to match customer data in order to identify and enroll customers. New Yorkers who are eligible for assistance programs.

Currently, more than one million households in New York do not receive assistance with their utility bill payments, but are eligible to do so.
