NEW YORK – New York’s landmarks will be illuminated in yellow, blue and red Sunday night to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of MTV Network.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Sunday that several New York City locations, including the Grand Central Terminal, the Kosciuszko Bridge, and the One World Trade Center, will be part of the celebration. Out-of-town locations include the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Albany International Airport Gateway, and the State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
Additional locations include the building H. Carl McCall SUNY, the state office building Alfred E. Smith and the state education building in Albany and the east end entrance to Long Island Rail Road at Penn Station.
MTV debuted in New York City on August 1, 1981 and currently reaches more than 1 billion people in 180 countries. Cuomo called the network “a cornerstone of pop culture” that “paved the way for a new level of media expression and appreciation” and increased political participation through its efforts to encourage young people to vote.
