Michael Kidd-Gilchrist joined the Dallas Mavericks via buyout during the season but ultimately had little influence. A departure from the earlier # 2 pick seems likely. The New York Knicks may be his new employer, the traditional franchise should be interested.
According to Marc Berman from the New York Post the Knicks want to deal with Kidd-Gilchrist in the Free Agency. Accordingly, the Knicks valued his defensive qualities and see MKG as a good veteran for the cabin.
At the same time there are some connections to MKG. The forward played under the new Knicks assistant Kenny Payne at Kentucky and is also a client at CAA, the agency which Knicks president of basketball operations Leon Rose led before he took the job with the Knicks.
MKG is said to come primarily from the bank as a defender, also because the free agent Maurice Harkless who came in February will probably have no future in the Big Apple.
Kidd-Gilchrist was drawn to number two by Charlotte in 2012, behind Anthony Davis, but never lived up to expectations. In 433 games for the Bobcats / Hornets, the man with the crooked throw averaged 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds on average.
