The New York Knicks are reportedly keeping their eye on Houston Rockets’ Victor Oladipo and may show interest in a deal ahead of the March trade deadline. Apparently, the Knicks want to add another “young but experienced talent” to their young core.
This is reported by A. Sherrod Blakely from Bleacher Report with reference to anonymous sources. Accordingly, the Knicks will keep a close eye on Oladipo’s appearances until the trade deadline or beyond. The 28-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and it is currently unclear whether the Rockets see him as a long-term part of the franchise.
The Guard only came to Texas in mid-January as part of James Harden’s blockbuster deal. There he has shown decent performances so far, seen over the entire 2020/21 season, Oladipo has an average of 20.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists. He was partly reminiscent of his old self after missing a large part of the previous season due to injury.
Back in October of last year, Marc Berman from the New York Post reported interest in Oladipo within the Knicks Front Office. Later, however, the Knicks’ interest cooled, according to Berman. With his good performances, the Guard could possibly have played back into the focus of the Knicks.
According to the sources of Bleacher Report the Knicks, who are currently ranked ninth in the east with a record of ten wins and 13 defeats, will appear more like buyers before the trade deadline to support their squad around the young talents like RJ Barrett and Obi Toppin or the strong Julius Reinforce Randle. In addition to Oladipo, Terry Rozier or Devonte ‘Graham from the Charlotte Hornets could also be options for the Knicks.
