The New York Knicks are looking for a point guard, but first and second picks don’t appear to be available. For that, the Knicks could reportedly consider a trade for D’Angelo Russell.
Jake Fischer speculates about this (Bleacher Report). As option number one, the franchise still hopes for jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, but that is very unrealistic. Even if the All-Star were to become available, Miami, for example, could make a better offer, league sources say.
Even with free agent Jalen Brunson, the chances for the Knicks seem to be dwindling, staying with the Mavs is likely. Instead, a trade for Russell could become an option for New York.
One of the reasons for this speculation: Gersson Rosas recently became a member of the Knicks’ front office, having previously steered Russell to Minnesota as Wolves team president. Rumors about a potential trade of the point guard from the Timberwolves have been circulating for some time, including Marc Stein (Substack) reported.
The 26-year-old is entering his final year of contract at Minnesota, where he is guaranteed $31.4 million. Last season he averaged 18.1 points and 7.1 assists at 41.1 percent from the field, but his numbers dropped significantly in the playoffs.
In addition, according to Fischer, the Knicks are said to have kept an eye on Jaden Ivey in the NBA Draft, who will be in 11th position when it is New York’s turn, but will almost certainly no longer be available. The Knicks, on the other hand, are said to have no interest in Collin Sexton, the Cavs’ restricted free agent is said to be on the list with the Pacers, Pistons and Wizards.
