The New York Knicks staged an objectively impressive campaign in 2019-20.
While many see them as doomed to miss the playoffs yet again, Julius Randle and Co. stuck, played hard and finished as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference.
While the enduring image of Trae Young knocking the Knicks out of the playoffs in the first round and then dancing to their grave is brutal, from any objective standpoint, the last year has been a success.
The big question now is: where does the organization go from here?
“We’re going to be aggressive to find out what’s going on and to be on top of things and look for opportunities,” team president Leon Rose said recently, according to the New York Post.
“But at the same time, we are going to be careful and disciplined in the decisions we make that will take into account the positive and negative, short term, long term, all of these factors in a decision making process.”
For now, if the Knicks move, three names seem more likely than the others: Karl-Anthony Towns, Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson.
Towns has clearly expressed his frustration with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Kentucky-CAA link was frequently cited as a potential catalyst for it to end up landing in the Big Apple.
Otherwise Towns – Lillard is another intriguing option. The Knicks made their trade offer to the Portland Trail Blazers for his services – it remains only to be seen if the Blazers bite.

Finally, don’t sleep on Williamson. His team have been quietly flirting with the Knicks for some time now. Although he publicly says all the right things – where there is smoke, there is fire.
At some point in the foreseeable future, as soon as possible, the Knicks will add a superstar. Who will be this superstar after all? Time will tell us.
