Today is primary election day and it’s the last chance for New Yorkers who didn’t vote early to go to the polls.

In addition to deciding the outcome of the New York State Democratic and Republican primaries for governor and lieutenant governor, it will determine the candidates that will appear on the ballot in the November general election for the state assembly.

During the early voting period, some 87,000 New York voters participated.

The polls will be open today until 9 p.m.

On the other hand, the candidates for today’s primaries took advantage of the last hours of the campaign to convince New Yorkers about their vote.

Governor Kathy Hochul was in Washington Heights accompanied by Congressman Adriano Espaillat and his running mate, lieutenant governor candidate Antonio Delgado.

On the Democratic side, there are also two women who are running to become the first Latina lieutenant governor in state history.

One is Diana Reyna, of Dominican origin and born in Los Sures, Brooklyn. She was a Brooklyn alderman for 12 years and served as a borough vice president on Eric Adams’ team.

The other is the activist of Colombian origin Ana María Archila who has received the support of the progressive wing of the party, including congresswomen Nydia Velazquez and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
