NEW YORK – A judge on Wednesday called out New York City’s problems with gas- and electric-powered bicycles by sentencing the electric scooter driver who crashed into ‘Gone Girl’ actress Lisa Banes to one-to-one jail time three years for his manslaughter conviction.
Brian Boyd, 27, was taken away in handcuffs after being convicted in Manhattan state court by Judge Gregory Carro of Banes’ death. She was struck by the scooter Boyd was riding as she crossed a street in midtown Manhattan in June 2021 and died 10 days later in a hospital.
Carro said Boyd ran through a red light, hit Banes, and fled to a bike shop, where he drank a beer.

Before Carro announced the sentence, which will require a year behind bars, Boyd said he was “extremely sorry.”
The sentence was consistent with an agreement Boyd signed before pleading guilty to manslaughter in September.

“My life stopped at that moment,” Kranhold said.
