The team confirmed the news late Thursday, but did not offer details.

Williams will therefore become the second highest paid tackle in the NFL, after Aaron Donald, of the Los Angeles Rams, who pockets 31.7 million per season.

Under the deal, Williams is guaranteed a minimum of $66 million, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity since the team has not confirmed the value of the pact or its duration. The salary guarantee is the largest in Jets history, surpassing the $51 million guaranteed to linebacker CJ Mosley as a free agent in 2019.

Williams will average $24 million per season with the Jets. Fellow Tennessee Titans Jeffery Simmons ($23.5 million), Washington Commanders Daron Payne ($22.5 million) and New York Giants Dexter Lawrence ($22.5 million) all received new contracts during the season summer, but none have surpassed that of Williams.

Williams did not take part in voluntary Jets practices, as he waited for his agent and the Jets to find common ground.
