With the “season-ending” injury to hopeful Aaron Rodgers, the Jets’ season was of course dealt a severe setback in Week 1. Under quarterback number 2 Zach Wilson, the “Gang Green” initially had big problems.
It wasn’t until Week 4 that the New Yorkers showed improvement, but were narrowly defeated by the Chiefs 20:23. The second win came last weekend with a 31:21 win over the Broncos.
Guests had a hard time here, but luckily they had Breece Hall in top form at the start. The running back had 22 rushes for 177 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown that tipped the game in NY’s favor.
With a strong run game (11th place in rush yards) and a good defense (14th place in points allowed), the Jets are competitive even without “A-Rod”.
Betting odds on the Super Bowl winner in 2024
Because QB Zach Wilson remains only a backup. The playmaker certainly looked a little better now after enormous problems in the first three games. The game against Kansas City was actually one of the best of his career.
Against the Broncos, he threw another late interception and was out of the clock at the end of the first half, denying his team a field goal attempt.
In addition, the Jets offense had a record of 0-5 against the NFL’s weakest defense in the red zone. And the defense allowed five 1st downs and a TD on 3rd and 1.
The good performances against the passing game from Buffalo and Kansas City give hope. Here it came Gang Green against Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes on more INTs than they allowed touchdowns.
