The New York Jets have parted ways with Head Coach Adam Gase. The team announced this in a press release on Monday night.
“We knew there was a lot of work ahead of us when Adam joined us in 2019,” said team owner Christopher Johnson in the statement. “Our strong finish last year was encouraging, but unfortunately we haven’t seen the development that we expected.”
The Jets had only won two of their 16 games of the season in 2020. With wins in weeks 15 and 16 over the Los Angeles Rams and the Cleveland Browns, Gang Green did not end the season as the worst team.
Gase took over the Jets in 2019 after three years as head coach of the Dolphins. In Miami he had won 23 of 48 games and reached the playoffs once. In his two years with the Jets, Gase only won nine of his 32 games and missed the postseason in both years.
It is currently still open who will become the new head coach of the jets. NFL Network named Eric Bieniemy of the Kansas City Chiefs, Matt Eberflus of the Indianapolis Colts, Don Martindale of the Baltimore Ravens and Arthur Smith of the Tennessee Titans as possible candidates.
