New York Islanders avoid elimination

Jordan Eberle broke the deadlock in second overtime and the New York Islanders avoided elimination by beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Tuesday night.

In a two-on-one climb, Anders Lee passed the puck to the right flank and Eberle was able to lift it over goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy’s mitten.

The Islanders reduced the Lightning’s lead to 3-2 in this Eastern Conference final. The sixth duel will take place on Thursday evening. The Dallas Stars await the winner of this series in the Stanley Cup Final.

Ryan Pulock also hit the target for the New York squad. Semyon Varlamov kept the fort and repelled 36 shots.

Victor Hedman scored the only goal of the game for the Lightning, who saw Vasilevskiy block 22 shots in loss.
