New York is the most expensive destination in the world to stay on New Year’s Eve, according to a survey by CheapHotels.org.
The study compared hotel prices in 50 major cities around the world. For each destination, the price of the cheapest double room available for a 3-night stay from 30 December to 2 January was recorded. Only centrally located hotels with at least three stars and generally positive guest reviews were considered.
At $312 a night for the cheapest room, New York City tops the chart. Miami, another US destination, is the second most expensive with a nightly rate of $297, while Sydney (Australia) rounds out the podium with rates just a couple of dollars cheaper.
London (UK) appears as the most expensive European city with a rate of $275 per night, ranking 4th overall. Topping the list among Asian destinations is Tokyo, Japan, where you’ll have to shell out $232 a night.
Compared to New Year’s Eve 2021, when travel to certain destinations was still heavily impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, Tokyo fares are more than 300% more expensive this year. Another destination that has seen a significant increase in fares is Marrakech in Morocco, where prices have more than tripled from a year ago.
