For many travelers to the USA, whether first-time visitors or repeat offenders, a city trip to New York City is a must. If you have a little more time, you will of course visit other cities and sights. Within the US state of New York, however, usually only New York City and possibly also the Niagara Falls at the other end of the state are visited. Unfortunately, what lies in between is often ignored.
“Upstate New York” has a lot to offer. And because you can achieve more together, several regional tourist offices and attractions of the State of New York have teamed up to create a special rental car tour on their own, which takes five days to the most important sights of “New York State”. The procedure is quite special, as rental car tours are usually put together and marketed by specialized DMCs. In this case, however, New York state tourist resorts took the reins into their own hands.
The rental car tour is called «Wine, Water & Wonders of Upstate New York»And is aimed primarily at tour operators. “This tour was specifically, but not exclusively, designed for German-speaking customers,” explains Elizabeth Davis, Director of International Sales at Destination Niagara. towards travelnews.ch. It’s about getting people “out of the city and into nature in New York” – to a certain extent this is about the “detox variant” of a visit to New York. Above all, however, Davis describes the program as “the best way to combine New York City and Niagara Falls”, which expresses the claim and goal of the tour perfectly.
The round trip leads from New York via Corning, the Finger Lakes and Rochester to Niagara Falls – i.e. to all the marketing partners behind the round trip. The further east part of New York (Capital District, North Valley and Mohawk Valley) are not visited. The duration of the complete tour is 5 days / 4 nights; According to Davis, however, the most common variant is 3 days / 4 nights, whereby the round trip can theoretically also be managed in 2 days, which makes little sense for a decelerating trip. With some tour operators, “Wine, Water & Wonders” is integrated into longer round trips. The tour can currently be booked with the following tour operators in German-speaking countries: FTI Touristik, Dertour / Kuoni, Neckermann / Thomas Cook, America Unlimited, Fairflight Touristik and Enjoy America.
