New York is preparing for contamination peak: possible quarantine

Public life in the northeastern United States has been completely paralyzed by the corona virus. “Travel is restricted because they have problems in Florida. A lot of New Yorkers go there and we don’t want that,” Trump said today. Earlier in the day, the president spoke with the governors of New York and Florida.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this afternoon that 52,318 people have been infected with the coronavirus and that 728 people have died from it. The number of hospital admissions did drop from 1154 to 847 from Thursday to Friday. “From day one, we’ve been chasing the virus, and we’ll see what it does. You don’t win by being defensive, you win with an offensive.”

Peak

He did not specify exactly what that should look like. According to Cuomo, his state needs 30,000 ventilators and 140,000 hospital beds to cope with the spike in infections, which is expected in two to three weeks.

In the meantime, hospitals are faced with an increasing shortage of protective equipment such as mouth masks and respirators. Their prices are skyrocketing.

A US Navy hospital ship is en route and four temporary hospitals with 1,000 beds each are being set up with approval from the White House.

Cuomo today decided to move the primaries from April 28 to June 23. He called on pharmacies to deliver medicines to people’s homes for free.
