Cuomo gave a press conference in which he stated that he would like to take various steps to make cultural events possible again and send artists back to work. The conference focused on both short-term and long-term actions in New York State and New York City. “We need to bring the arts and culture back to life,” said the governor. “New York City is not New York without Broadway.”
The state wants to organize so-called pop-up concerts and is in contact with artists such as Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, Renée Fleming and Hugh Jackman. The concerts should take place in rooms where a minimum distance of 1.50 meters is possible and the seating is flexible.
The governor expressly said that he did not want to wait until summer 2021 with the concerts. The concert series organized by the state of New York and implemented by the umbrella organization “New York Arts Revival” is to begin on February 4th. Spectators should be tested
