New York is planning a major concert in Central Park for the “rebirth” after the Corona crisis

BerlinFor its comeback after the Corona crisis, New York is planning a huge concert in Central Park. It is not yet known which stars will perform, but it will be “the culmination of an amazing, remarkable, once in a lifetime week” celebrating the “rebirth” of New York City, Mayor Bill De Blasio said on Monday when announcing the project.

The program is to be taken care of by the prominent music producer Clive Davis, who has worked with stars such as Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston in the past. Davis told Times magazine that he would be hiring eight iconic stars for the three-hour concert, which will be broadcast worldwide.

Many of the 60,000 tickets are to be given away free of charge, but VIP seats are also planned. In the past, the large lawn in Central Park was the location of the famous free concert by Simon and Garfunkel in 1981 and the Global Citizen concert in 2019.

New York was one of the hardest hit cities in the United States at the start of the corona pandemic. According to official data, 63 percent of residents have now been vaccinated at least once, and the number of infections has fallen dramatically. As soon as the vaccination rate is at 70 percent, Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plans are to lift most of the remaining corona restrictions.
