New York Horizon: the incredible project that wants to reinvent Central Park

A project 80 times bigger than the Empire State Building!

In this huge city of New York, it’s hard to distinguish anything other than skyscrapers, which allows creative minds to let their imaginations run wild to changing the face of Big Apple. And thanks to their idea called New York Horizon, Yitan Sun and Jianshi Wu, winners of the “Skyscraper Competition”, wish to “reverse the traditional relationship between landscape and architecture” with a project 80 times larger than the Empire State Building!

A park of mountainous rocks surrounded by mirrors

Yitan Sun and Jianshi Wu imagined a park in which the ground would be dug down to mountainous rock, or 30 meters deep. Also, a 300-meter-long building would be built around it to reflect the Manhattan neighborhood and give an impression of infinity. The architects also propose to create, with the cleared earth, reliefs similar to mountains to organization of activities such as hiking, climbing, swimming, etc. The mega-structure, for its part, provides for 11 km² of housing, offices, and cultural spaces.

Good to know

Although visionary and well thought out, the New York Horizon project should not see the light of day.
