New York homicide rate rises during coronavirus pandemic

In recent years New York was considered the safest big city in the US, but in times of pandemics the Big Apple has to contend with a massive increase in homicides. By Tuesday, 447 violent killings had been counted in the metropolis since the beginning of the year – an increase of 41 percent compared to the same period last year.

Victims are partially killed by ricochets

The number of people shot has more than doubled compared to the previous year. Among the victims that year was a one-year-old boy sitting in his stroller; a 53 year old teacher who was walking her dog; and a 43 year old mother looking out the window of her child’s room. All three victims were killed by ricochets.
