New York High School Students Win Prestigious Essay Writing Competition on Press Freedom and Social Media

New York ∙ Gautam Krishna Saji, an eleventh grade student of Midwood High School in New York, won the first place in the senior category. In the junior category, Samira Cavanall, a ninth grade student of Yorktown High School in New York, won the first place. Caitlin Dan Thomas, a fifth-grader at Calvary Christian School in Atlanta, received the incentive prize in the junior division.

Essay writing was on the topic of press freedom in danger in the senior section. In the junior category, the topic “Why I like/dislike social media” was to be written in English.

The competition was organized in conjunction with the 10th anniversary and 9th media conference of the Indo-American Press Club in Stamford, USA. Prizes will be distributed to the winners at a public event on October 9. The conference will feature discussions and workshops led by renowned journalists from various countries. IAPC was formed in 2013 to bring together Indo-American journalists.
