On Friday evening at 10:40 p.m. (CET), Andrasch Starke rode Loft, trained by Marcel Weiß for the Ittlingen stud in Mülheim/Ruhr, on the racetrack in Belmont Park in New York to victory in the $400,000 Belmont Cup. A great success also for German thoroughbred breeding. Andrasch Starke traveled back to Germany overnight and got into the saddle on Saturday for the first race in the Krefeld city forest.

And in the second race, the Leading Ladies in Town Prize, Andrasch Starke on Sancho returned to the scales as the winner, to great applause from the audience. No trace of travel strains, he set the course for victory early on with his ninth success this year on the Stadtwald racetrack for the guest from the Netherlands. In the final race, the New York hero struck again as he rode the clearly favored Amaana to victory in the closing yards.
The introductory prize from Dagmar Fahnler-Gold- & Silberschmiede went on Ladies’ Day in front of 2,300 visitors in the best external conditions in Andreas Bolte’s Lengerich district, whose family-owned Shano under Bauryzhan Murzabayev clearly won. “Now the prom can come tonight with my daughter in Münster,” said Andreas Bolte happily.
Edeka Kempken’s prize ended in a dramatic final battle, even though there were only four horses at the start. Dalina, trained by Peter Schiergen for the Bavarian Ammerland Stud, snapped on the line, Bauyrzhan Murzabayev proved once again why he is the champion jockey of the last three years. Russian Candy couldn’t be moved into the boxes, so the mare was dismissed from the start. Unfortunately for the organizing racing club, this scenario was repeated in the fourth race, in the price of the fashion studio Andrea Hitschler. This time it was Waldrose who absolutely couldn’t be persuaded to take her seat, the bets had to be paid back here too. Only three horses started the journey, the favorite Schützenprinz owned by Walter Busch won easily under Adrie de Vries, the three-year-old stallion trained by Jean-Pierre Carvalho recommended itself for higher tasks.
The Dutch guest Lanuza under Gijs Snijders won the “betting chance of the day” with a guaranteed payout in the four-way bet of over 10,000 euros. For coach Christian Wolters it was the second goal of the day after Shano. Since Sacher and Landbaron in third place could not be separated even by the enlargement of the target photo, there were two odds for the four-way bet. 528 for 1 euro bet and 689 for 1 euro bet. Several bettors had hit the four-way bet.
Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, who steered his third winner of the day in the Preis des Weingut Schloss Johannisberg on Petit Marin, was in great form on Saturday. Trained with the three-year-old gelding owned by Dirk von Mitzlaff, he easily distanced himself from the competition. Trainer Marcel Weiß, who had saddled Loft to the big goal in New York on Friday evening, should have a very talented horse in his stable with Petit Marin.
“Regardless of the partly small starting fields and considering that we had to pay back the stakes in two races on heavily bets on horses, we are very, very satisfied with the total turnover of 123,794 euros. The betting chance of the day was again very well received, alone in 40,865 euros were turned over in this test, and 19,500 euros in the four-way bet alone,” said racing club president Jan A. Schreurs late on Saturday afternoon, drawing an initial all-round positive balance.
