No visit to New York is complete without a visit to an Observation Deck atop a skyscraper. Beginning October 21, 2021, Summit One Vanderbilt will be the newest to visit.
Skyscraper One Vanderbilt by the architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox is the third tallest skyscraper in Manhattan at 427 meters. The building opened to users in September. Just over a year later is the opening of the Summit. This is primarily an observation deck that offers great views of New York, but there’s more.
Air
There are floating ‘sky boxes’ where you can enjoy the busy city under your feet in a glass box (with a glass bottom) on the side. If you don’t think that’s exciting enough, you can join us Ascent, a glass elevator on the outside of the building. Finally, there is still inside Air from Kenzo Digital. Air is an installation of glass and mirrors that uses light and the reflection of the city to create special environments. Especially when the sky turns orange and red at sunset and the lights in the city come on, Air is a spectacular experience.
Cocktail
Another part of the Summit is the Après lounge where you can enjoy a cocktail and a snack in a kind of Alpine meadow. This part of the skyscraper was designed by Snøhetta. A visit to One Vanderbilt is therefore highly recommended during your next trip to New York. The skyscraper can be found on the corner of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
Other skyscrapers where you can go up for a view of The Big Apple are: Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Rockefeller Center and the 2020 opened The Edge at 30 Hudson Yards. An observation deck will also open soon in the Chrysler Building.
