New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has received the Emmy Founders Award for his daily television appearances over the past year. Cuomo receives the prize for his efforts during the corona crisis, the organization of the prestigious television awards reports.
Cuomo (62) has been awarded for his “effective communication and leadership” at his press conferences, which were shown daily on television. His sense of calm and objective provision of information is particularly appreciated by the organization.
“The governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he poignantly created television shows with characters, plot and stories of success and failure,” said Bruce L. Paisner, CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, who awards the Emmys.
Cuomo kicked off its daily briefings on March 2, when the coronavirus had just hit the city, as part of a broadcast with multiple New York leaders. The governor continued this until June and reached a total of 59 million viewers.
The International Emmy Founders Award is presented to people who contribute to the quality of international television. Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and Al Gore, among others, previously won the prize.
