New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has dispatched emergency personnel from various agencies, including the National Guard, in addition to the team sent to help in the city of Buffalo, the region hardest hit by Winter Storm Elliot, where two people died because they didn’t get the medical care they needed.

“What is happening in Buffalo is life threatening,” Hochul said, referring to the city, which was hit by one of the worst snowstorms that has caused emergencies for trapped residents, service personnel and equipment. on the roads. The city has had to close its border bridges with Canada.

Ice, floods, snow, temperatures and blackouts carried Elliot as he traverses New York, said Hochul, who on Friday declared a state of emergency and mobilized National Guard personnel, who had to augment their personnel to help with emergencies health care and search and rescue operations.

Since Thursday Elliott, a cyclone bomb from an Arctic air front has brought freezing temperatures from Canada to Texas, as well as heavy rains and high winds.

“This (storm) had a huge impact and caused blackout conditions in the western part of the state”added Hochul, who reminded New Yorkers that these conditions in the electric service have been restored, but there are still households without electricity at times when temperatures have reached single digits.

Given the national emergency that has left nearly 700,000 people without electricity, mainly in states like North Carolina and Maine, US President Joe Biden warned on Friday that citizens should take the storm “extremely serious ” and urged to take into account the recommendations of the authorities.
