New York governor harassed women for years, study shows

The 63-year-old governor was accused by several women, mainly former employees. Cuomo denied the allegations, but also often said he did not remember incidents. According to the researchers, this stands in ‘big contrast’ with the detailed statements made by the complainants.

“The facts are very different from how they have been portrayed,” Cuomo said in a statement today. He never claims to have touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual comments. “That’s just not who I am.”

‘Climate of fear’

The investigation reveals that the governor sexually harassed women from 2013 to 2020. His office became a “toxic workplace” where a “climate of fear” reigned.

A former government official, Lindsey Boylan, was the first woman to charge Cuomo. According to her, he kissed her on the lips in his office and asked her to play strip poker with him.

In March, the Democrat did apologize for statements that “may have been unintentionally interpreted as flirting.” He then admitted that he may have made comments that, given his position, “have been too personal” and therefore misunderstood.

There is not only a judicial investigation into Cuomo, the New York state parliament is investigating whether the governor can be impeached. Cuomo is in his third term in office and has previously received high praise for his handling of the corona crisis.

US President Joe Biden has called on Cuomo to resign. Other Democratic Party leaders have also called on their party colleague to resign.
