After a year of closure, the New York theaters will be able to relaunch their activity. Distances must be respected.
The Big Apple will soon find the songs of his musicals. On Monday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that Broadway theaters could reopen on May 19, after being closed for more than a year due to the coronavirus. According to the Hollywood Reporter, which relays the information, most of the restrictions related to the pandemic will be lifted on that date, but the distancing recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will still be in effect.
Nevertheless, the directors of theaters are working on a resumption of their activity in the fall. Because as Andrew Cuomo notes, it will take time for establishments to relaunch their activity and sell their tickets:
“They may decide on the date of their reopening themselves, from an economic point of view,” he adds.
The latter reacted with enthusiasm in a press release relayed by the Hollywood Reporter: “We applaud the governor’s recent announcements, which make it easier to welcome New York State shows. We are encouraged by this good news (…) We look forward to reopening in full capacity and are working to accommodate safe for the public and our employees in Broadway theaters this fall. “
