New York Governor Cuomo Files for Retirement

Andrew Cuomo, the governor of the US state of New York, officially filed a retirement application on Tuesday. The application follows his announcement last week to resign after an investigation revealed that he had sexually harassed women, especially former employees, for years.

Cuomo, 63, is entitled to a monthly state retirement benefit after serving in government office for more than a decade. According to the American think tank Empire Center, he is eligible for a benefit of at least $ 50,000 a year. However, the benefit can still be withdrawn if Cuomo is convicted of a crime by a judge, the organization says. The pension scheme should come into effect on September 1.

Cuomo sexually assaulted 11 women between 2013 and 2020, the study revealed at the beginning of this month. These included sexual harassment, unwanted and inappropriate groping, kissing, hugging and comments that alleged victims called “deeply humiliating, uncomfortable, offensive or inappropriate.”

Cuomo initially denied doing anything wrong. Last Tuesday, however, he admitted to having made mistakes. “But I never intended to disrespect a woman,” he added.
