NEW YORK, Oct.20 (Xinhua) – New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday criticized United States President Donald Trump for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed more than 220,000 victims in the country.
Nearly “221,000 Americans have died from COVID-19. Lying to the public about this cannot constitute a national strategy for responding to the pandemic,” the governor tweeted.
In his tweet, Mr. Cuomo attached the CNN article “‘It’s going to fade’: a timeline of Mr. Trump’s claims that COVID-19 will go away.”
The article quotes the president who said on July 1 of this year, “And I think we’re going to be very good with the (new) coronavirus. I think at some point it’s going to kind of go away, I l ‘hope “.
Cuomo told reporters on Monday that the federal government has failed to meet its obligations in the fight against COVID-19, as only a third of Americans have been tested in the past seven months as the pandemic was raging.
The National Association of Governors (NGA) – of which Mr. Cuomo is president – sent a list of questions to the Trump administration on Tuesday seeking clarification on how the federal government was going to distribute and administer most effectively possible vaccine against COVID-19.
The Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University reported 220,806 deaths from the novel coronavirus in the United States as of Tuesday afternoon, the worst death toll of any country in the world.
