(Reuters) – New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo on Friday rejected increasingly pressing calls for his resignation even in his Democratic camp, despite suspicions of harassment or even sexual assault.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jerry Nadler and several other New York Democrats elected to the United States Congress demanded the resignation of Andrew Cuomo on Friday.
At least six women, most of them former collaborators, have launched accusations against the governor, ranging from an inappropriate flirtatious attitude at work to touching.
During a conference call with the press, Andrew Cuomo, 63, once again dismissed the accusations and deemed “reckless and dangerous” calls for his resignation even before the truth was established.
“Women have the right to come forward and be heard and I fully encourage that. But I also want to be clear: there is also a question of truth. I did not do what was claimed, period. final, ”he said.
The New York State Congress announced Thursday that it will open an investigation into possible impeachment proceedings, while State Justice Minister Letitia James conducts her own investigations.
Andrew Cuomo has asked residents to wait until the end of these investigations before passing judgment.
“Wait until you know the facts. To form an opinion without the facts is irresponsible,” he said.
Asked about possible dealings with his accusers, Andrew Cuomo replied that he never wanted to make anyone uncomfortable and apologized if that was the case.
