Jakob Johnson has lost his NFL spot again. The fullback had to make room for a new signing at the New York Giants.
Jakob Johnson’s NFL journey is over for now. The German fullback was released by the New York Giants to make room for new signing Adoree’ Jackson.
The Giants recently signed the cornerback to reinforce their defense, and Johnson will have to vacate his place on the G-Men’s 53-man roster.
It is the next emotional twist for the 29-year-old Stuttgart native. Johnson had only signed a contract with the Giants in mid-August, but did not survive the roster cut last week and was released again.
Shortly thereafter, he was accepted into the Giants’ newly formed practice squad and wanted to recommend himself for assignments there during the season.
A little later, Johnson received news that was as happy as it was surprising: After center Austin Schlottmann was injured, he was given his place in the team’s active roster. Now, another turnaround.
It remains to be seen whether Johnson will return to the Giants’ practice squad or whether he will remain without a team in the NFL. For now, he will stick to his NFL appearances for the New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders.
