Hamburg (AP) – Almost exactly 20 years ago, Alicia Keys rose to become a Grammy Queen. The young artist, who immediately conquered the top of the American charts with her debut album “Songs In A Minor”, scooped up a total of five trophies.

Alicia Keys was born 41 years ago (January 25) in the New York neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen. At that time a rather dangerous corner with a high crime rate. But with hard work, she made it all the way to the top: she finished school at the top of her class and immediately got a scholarship to an elite university and a record deal – after a while she finally decided to devote herself entirely to music.

For years, the superstar had celebrated success with his LA Lakers basketball team at the Staples Center. “We are standing here and our hearts are broken in the house that Kobe created,” said Alicia Keys at the beginning of the event, during which she impressively managed the balancing act between grief, sympathy and music show.
Since then, Alicia Keys, who received classical piano lessons at the age of seven, has recorded eight successful studio albums. Most recently “Keys” was released: “The album is like a homecoming for me, it brings me back to my beginnings and roots. It’s mainly about my relationship with the piano, about great songs with a roughness and with emotions. It has a jazzy side and a blues tone – my inspirations,” she says.
