New York Frick Collection moves

New York (AP) – The New York Frick Collection, which shows works from the Renaissance to the 19th century, will temporarily be in a different building from March.

Large parts of the collection of the museum in Central Park, which has been closed since March 2020 due to the corona pandemic, will be on view in the “Frick Madison” from March 18, the operators announced on Wednesday night. This is the brutalist building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, completed in 1966 by architect Marcel Breuer, which housed the Whitney Museum of American Art until 2014 and was then a temporary branch of the Metropolitan Museum.

However, due to excessive operating costs, the Met withdrew from it earlier than planned. Because the Frick Collection wants to renovate and convert, the operators have expressed interest in the building. After the around 160 million dollar renovation work, the Frick Collection plans to reopen in its original building on Central Park in 2023.
