New York: French tourist stabbed in the street

A 27-year-old French tourist was stabbed in the throat in the middle of the street in Harlem on Friday as he was leaving a restaurant with his girlfriend. Originally from Montpellier, Gabriel Bascou is an artist photographer who would have lived several years in Reunion.

The news item was widely relayed by the New York press on Friday, in particular by the New York Post which publishes on its site a video of the victim supported by the emergency services. In the images, we see the Frenchman standing with his throat kneeling in the middle of the street, his partner by his side, blood flowing abundantly on the sidewalk. Caution, these images may disturb. Gabriel Bascou, who arrived in New York the day before to see his girlfriend, was dating her from a restaurant when the facts occurred. They were in the Harlem neighborhood, precisely at Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard near West 132nd Street. The victim was reportedly stabbed to the throat. According to his statements in the American press, he saw nothing coming. His attacker would have attacked him, without stealing anything before fleeing.

An actively wanted suspect

New York City CCTV footage shows an African-American man, wearing black clothing, fleeing from the scene. He is actively sought by the local police forces as reported by our colleagues at ABC News:
