Austin Rivers (15 points at 6/9 in 17 minutes) clutch and the largely dominant team in the physical challenge (51 rebounds at 32), New York beat Indiana (4-2) 106-102 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse that night. Two weeks earlier, the Knicks (3-3) had lost 14 points against the same team (but without Rivers, absent from the first 4 games for a groin injury).
R.J. Barrett finished the team’s top scorer with 25 points, Julius Randle has compiled 13 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Malcolm Brogdon broke his career record with 33 points for the Pacers, but he was also countered at 3 points by Mitchell Robinson With less than a minute to go, which led to a basket clutch from Rivers to regain the lead in the Knicks’ decisive 11-0.
Led 51-50 at the break, the men of Tom Thibodeau started their second half 16-5. The gap has reached 10 points (66-56) but Justin Holiday came to equalize at 82 everywhere at the buzzer at the end of the 3rd quarter. Randle revived his team with a 3-point to start the 4th. Indiana passed 96-93, Robinson started the decisive run with a dunk, Rivers added a 3-point behind, before his last shot sealed the fate of the game.
