The two creators of the House of Public School paraded Sunday models with red caps “Make America New York”, diverting the famous campaign slogan of Donald Trump, during New York Fashion Week.
The proposal symbolizes both the New York identity of the brand, founded by two city children, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Oxborne, and the values of the cultural capital of the United States, open to the world.
“Make America Great Again,” “make America great again,” has been the campaign slogan of candidate Donald Trump, who has continued to use it regularly since his inauguration. On the side of the cap that several models wore, was embroidered “44 1/2”, suggesting that Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States, would be only a “half” president. Asked by AFP, the two creators did not wish to speak after the parade.
Other manifestations of the political nature of the event, it was titled “You’re Welcome”, an obvious counterbalance to the protectionist migration policy of the new president.
Several pieces, very sportswear sweatshirts, bore a photo of former basketball player Michael Jordan with, on the back, the inscription “We Need Leaders”.
It was Public School’s big comeback at New York Fashion Week, after a year of absence. Last September, decided to focus on the DKNY collection, of which they had taken over the artistic direction, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, had passed their turn.
Since then, the takeover of the brand from LVMH by the G-III group prompted them to give up, noting that the new owners did not share the vision of a move upmarket by DKNY.
Now refocused on their own house, the two designers have proposed, for the Fall-Winter 2017 season, a collection that has seized on classic clothing to divert it.
The Prince of Wales suit thus became a set for women consisting of a jacket with sleeves torn off the shoulders, adorned with a corset, and loose, comfortable pants.
The duo also reinterpreted the famous plaid shirt, one of the essentials of the American style, with new cuts and more length.
Velvet, which is making a comeback this season with many designers, has also been used in its wisest, ribbed and beige version, for a dress with a contemporary feel.
