New York Fashion Week: The Big Apple sets these catwalk trends

The city that never sleeps is already ringing in the autumn/winter season. However, we are not talking about freezing temperatures, but about the groundbreaking trends that well-known designers are showing in their FW 2022/2023 collections in New York.

With a look at the show calendar in the Big Apple, it was immediately apparent that greats like Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne and Tom Ford were not to be found. Nevertheless, we were not disappointed! Some newcomers as well as established fashion houses showed their innovative designs on the catwalks of the American fashion metropolis. We have brought you five trends that you should plan into your winter wardrobe.

Welcome to the Dark Side

While leather was more likely to be sent down the catwalk in elegant colors such as brown, bordeaux or dark green in recent winter seasons, this season was pretty gloomy. Heavy black leather pieces are celebrating their comeback. Be it with trench coats or sexy mini dresses – the tough material returns to its rocking origins.

Ladylike

Already in Copenhagen we discovered the return of the waist. Only a few days later, the New Yorker also showed tailored cuts. Even if the casual oversized style is still popular, Tory Burch and Co. emphasize the feminine side and set exciting accents around the middle with waist belts and Co.

freshness kick

A few months ago, Pantone announced the color of the year 2022. The choice fell on the Pantone tone 17-3938 called “Very Peri”. An announcement that labels like Proenza Schouler don’t need to be said twice. The refreshing shade, which one would have expected in summer collections, is also finding its way into our wardrobes in winter.

Farbexplosion

But the soft shade of purple wasn’t the only color that graced the runway. Bright colors like orange, yellow or blue got the attention this season they deserve in the cold gray months. New: the feel-good colors are worn less as eye-catchers with certain pieces, but in a total look. Designers like Christian Siriano and Gabriela Hearst rely on a self-confident mix of power suits and power colours.

Long story

When it comes to length, there were two extremes in New York: damn short, or, as seen with Altuzarra and Peter Do, floor-length. Yes, maxi skirts are back! And we’re not talking about the floral boho skirts of the ’70s. Black, heavy skirts with a good dose of grunge are real statements that we can easily upgrade or downgrade with classy blouses or cozy sweaters.
