It is the most important US fashion week of all: Stars and personalities from the fashion scene come together and celebrate the designers. This year only to a limited extent.

Stuttgart – September is all about style and beauty. For the fashion industry, the month marks the beginning of a new season. The fashion industry runs most of its ads in the fall and the September issues of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar or Elle hit hundreds of magazine pages filled with inspiration from New York. The current fashion week in New York is currently showing what fashion is in demand in autumn and what trends the coming spring promises.
This year, New York Fashion Week takes place under almost normal conditions. The models float over the catwalk again. Virtual presentations and catwalks are being dispensed with a little, many shows will take place outdoors. Unfortunately, an international audience will not be able to travel this year either and some brands continue to rely on live streaming.
Presented in extraordinary places
Despite everything, big names like Tom Ford and Altuzarra will also be there in 2021. LaQuan Smith will present her collection on Thursday evening at the Empire State Building in Manhattan. Moschino, Sergio Hudson and Carolina Herrera show their collections and Hillary Taymour, the designer of the Collina Strada label, presents her sustainable fashion on a rooftop garden in Brooklyn.
The American-Liberian designer Telfar Clemens, known for his vegan leather bags, and the newcomer Peter Do are also on the program. Tory Burch, Oscar de la Renta and Tom Ford, among others, will end the fashion spectacle on Sunday.
Designers create space for creativity
The New York Fashion Week sets a certain standard, because the fashion weeks in the cities of London, Milan and Paris follow suit. But even before the pandemic, it was already clear that the US fashion location was also struggling with departures. Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger performed elsewhere and personalities like Pyer Moss, Rihanna and Victoria Beckham distanced themselves.
There is also talk of the fact that many designers no longer feel the pressure of having to show a show every season, one no longer commits oneself and thus creates more space for even more intensive creative work. Conclusion: The fashion world is changing.
