New York faces the “craziest” winter in years without snow in between

This Saturday, snow was expected in New York City and although some flakes were seen falling, they were not enough for an accumulation to be counted.

Unlike the West Coast and the Midwest, the Eastern region, primarily in southern New York, Maryland, New Jersey and surrounding regions, has seen little to no snow.

“This is exactly what we should see in a global warming winter. We’re getting precipitation, it’s not like it’s dry, but it’s just not falling as snow,” Art DeGaetano, director of the Northeast Regional Climate Center at Cornell University, told The New York Times.

He added that the La Niña phenomenon is another factor impacting the strange winter in the Big Apple, which already set a record in January for days without snow, a mark from 50 years ago.

Nancy Nichols, organizer of the Lake George Winter Carnival said it without filters: “This is one of the craziest winters I’ve ever seen.”

The mild weather has been favorable for businesses in the city, as people get out more, but other seasonal businesses have faced problems, due to a lack of snow for skiing and other activities.

Experts indicate that snow could still reach New York, as some of the worst storms have occurred in March, although they acknowledge that it is difficult to predict the formation of precipitation, due to constant changes, which allow forecasts of just a few days.
