NEW YORK – The second heat wave of the season has generated sweltering humidity and high temperatures throughout the tri-state area and will also be on Wednesday. This before the arrival of possible severe storms which would generate some relief from the dangerous heat.
Wednesday could be the most oppressive day of the week so far, a week in which records for daily highs have been set. Once again, the humidity on the east coast will make the outside feel stifling as the heat indexes exceed 100.
This time, seemingly severe storms are expected that could wreak havoc later in the day. Damaging winds are the main threat at this point, but some hail is also possible, while an isolated tornado to the north and west of the city cannot be ruled out either.
Excessive heat advisories and advisories remain in effect throughout the tri-state area until 8:00 pm, while an air quality alert is also in effect for locations.
In preparation for the heat wave, New York City opened cooling centers on Sunday. The city also opened nearly all of its public outdoor pools over the weekend for the summer season.
