New York. New York has lifted the nocturnal curfew earlier than planned because of rioting during protests against police violence and racism. It ended with immediate effect, tweeted Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday.
He referred to the last peaceful course of the protests: “Yesterday and last night we saw the best of our city.”
New York City: curfew was in effect until Sunday
The curfew, valid from 8 p.m. in the whole metropolis, was according to the previous requirements until at least Sunday.
The lifting should coincide with the first phase of easing the exit restrictions that have been in place for two months due to the corona pandemic.
“Tomorrow we will take the first big step to restart,” wrote de Blasio.
Protesters report: “I want justice, peace and change”
