New York Elects New Mayor: What Makes Eric Adams So Special – People

The New York press, which is never boring anyway, is extremely exciting these days.

The city is hit by an unprecedented wave of crime. Robberies where the criminals don’t even bother to wear a mask, subway attacks, shootings. Every day!

Locals say it was last so dangerous to take to the streets in the darkest days of the late 1970s.

Now the New Yorkers are electing a new mayor.

The preliminary decision has already been made – the Democratic primary. The vote count is still ongoing.

All reasonable people hope in Eric Adams. For once, the fact that it is black does not matter. He was a police officer and served under Rudy Giuliani. He wants to put an end to the absurd practice of sending social workers to crime scenes instead of police officers when making emergency calls.

He vows to back the police. A daring promise these days.

Attorney General Cyrus Vance has just closed the trials of hundreds of looters. And at the same time, investigations were initiated against 39 police officers who were involved in the riots last summer.

Incidentally, there has never been a woman among the 109 New York mayors.

For that, New York has an LGBTQ pioneer in its genealogy! Lord Cornbury, who ruled the city for the British Crown in the early 8th century, would probably describe himself as “gender fluid” today.
