New York drives investigations against Trump company

According to a media report, the New York public prosecutor’s office has decisively advanced its investigation into the real estate company of ex-President Donald Trump. The Washington Post reported yesterday evening (local time) that a so-called grand jury had been convened in the proceedings. This is a panel of juries that can decide on an indictment in a non-public procedure.

The Washington Post reported, citing two anonymous sources, that the group of lay judges will meet three days a week for six months to determine whether the prosecution’s evidence is sufficient to bring charges.

Evidence of criminal action?

According to the newspaper’s report, the move is an indication that Manhattan’s District Attorney Cyrus Vance has found evidence of criminal activity, either from Trump himself or from one of his confidants.

A Vance spokesman declined to comment. Vance, had previously fought for the surrender of Trump’s tax documents before the Supreme Court in Washington. He has not yet brought any charges.

Incorrect information and payment of hush payments

The comprehensive investigation concerns, among other things, the suspicion that Trump’s company has made false statements about the value of their real estate in order to get loans or to gain price advantages. Vance is also reportedly investigating hush money payments to women who said they had an affair with Trump. Trump rejects all allegations against him.

Last week it became known that separate investigations by New York Attorney General Letitia James now also have a criminal component. Some experts suspected the announcement of the expanded investigation could be a sign that indictments could soon arise.
