Starting today, the Dominican community in New York will be able to carry out banking procedures without having to travel to the Dominican Republic.
This Thursday the Reserve Bank formally begins operations in its offices located in lower Manhattan.
With this, the Dominican diaspora will be able to carry out movements such as processing financial loans, investing in properties in Quisqueya, obtaining a credit card or depositing their savings.
“The achievement of a dream for the Dominican community that a Bank of the Dominican Republic is established to be that bridge that allows Dominicans their way back to their home of origin,” commented José Obregón, director of international business at the bank. .
“Customers can update their data for their accounts, open their savings accounts in both Dominican pesos and dollars. Here they have all the services, you can help yourself and request, for example, an appointment or a payment for a license tax or a tax that you want to make there,” he said.
The branch is located in the Radio Hotel at 2420 Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan.
Some Dominicans assured that this will save them trips they had to make to the island to carry out some procedures.
“If the bank is not there I have to go to Santo Domingo and pay for a flight, in case I can do it from here. I do it here. That is perfect and where it is is very good,” commented Altagracia Martínez.
The long-term goal is to have a complete office that offers all banking services to improve the financial quality of Dominicans in the diaspora, they said.
