New York Dolls guitarist: Sylvain Sylvain is dead – culture

The musician Sylvain Sylvain died at the age of 69. He succumbed to cancer on Wednesday like on his Facebook page was announced.

Born in Cairo in 1951, Sylvain Mizrahi and his Jewish family came to New York via France, where he founded the band Actress in 1971, which soon afterwards became the New York Dolls.

The group, whose five members liked to appear in women’s clothes and made up, played glam rock and was an important pioneer of punk with their wild performances.

Her best-known album was the 1973 debut with hits like “Personality Crisis” and “Pills”. After separating in 1977, Sylvain formed the band The Criminals and later released solo albums.

At the initiative of her fan Morrissey, there was a Dolls reunion with three original members in 2004, which resulted in three albums. The band also went on tour again.

From the original line-up, only singer David Johansen remains. In an Instagram post he wrote under a photo of himself with the guitarist “I’m gonna miss you old pal. I’ll keep the home fires burning. Au revoir Syl mon vieux copain”. (Tsp)
