“New York does not exist without the sound of Celia Cruz”: Omer Pardillo

NEW YORK, (NOTISTARZ) .- For Omer Pardillo, executor of the late Celia Cruz, New York does not exist without the music of the famous Cuban singer, which is why it celebrates that the city has dedicated a street to honor her name.

This Wednesday was the unveiling of the sign with the legend “Celia Cruz Way”, located on one of the streets of the Bronx also known as “El Condado de la Salsa.” The tribute was attended by local politicians and friends of the sauce company, including her executor.

“It was a historic day for Celia’s legacy, to be awarded a street in the city that she chose as her home since November 1960, a city which gave her many joys in her personal and professional life.

“Today a street with her name is captured, there is no NY without the sound of Celia in all its streets from the 60s to the present, there is no Celia Cruz without her NYC, the city she loved and felt at home,” said Pardillo to Notistarz.

“Every time I landed at the New York airport, I said” finally home “keeping in mind that Celia traveled almost 11 months of the year on a world tour,” he said. “Celia represents the triumph of all Latinos in the United States and especially in New York.”

The street is in front of the Celia Cruz High School Of Music, which was inaugurated in 2003 after her death. With this there are already four streets that bear the name of “The Queen of Salsa” in the United States: in Miami, Los Angeles and Union City, New Jersey. There are also others in Spain, Costa Rica and Mexico.

The singer, an icon of the tropical song, passed away in 2003 at her home in Fort Lee, New Jersey, and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, in the Bronx. Cruz arrived in the United States in 1960 and has more than 70 record productions to his credit.
